RCD ( Type Ac, A, F or B ) New Installation
DESCRIPTION:
✓ RCD Each (Type Ac, A, F or B) New Installation
✓ Type AC DB431079.svg
Type AC RCDs detect residual sinusoidal alternating currents. RCDs of type AC are good for general use and can be used for most things in real life.
✓ Type A DB431080.svg
Type A RCDs can also find pulsating DC residual current in addition to what type AC RCDs can do. Diode or thyristor rectifier circuits in electronic loads can cause these waveforms. RCDs of type A are made to be used with class 1 single-phase electronic loads
✓ Type F DB431081.svg
IEC 62423 and IEC60755 just added a new type of RCD called "Type F." In addition to the detection features of type A RCDs, type F RCDs are made to protect circuits where single-phase variable speed drives could be used. In these circuits, the waveform of the residual current could be a mix of different frequencies, such as the frequency of the motor, the frequency of the convertor switching, and the frequency of the line. Frequency converters are being used more in certain loads (washing machines, air conditioners, etc.) to save energy, and type F RCD will cover these new uses.
Type F also has a better ability to withstand disturbances (non-tripping on surge current). Even if a pure direct current of 10 mA is added on top of a sinusoidal or pulsed DC differential current, they can still trip.
✓ Type B DB431082.svg
Type B RCDs can find residual currents that are sinusoidal AC, pulsating DC, a mix of multiple frequencies, and smooth DC. Also, different frequencies from 50Hz to 1kHz are used to define trip conditions. In an AC electrical distribution network, a pure DC residual current is mostly made by three-phase rectifying circuits, but some single-phase rectifiers can also make it.
Type B RCDs are meant to be used with loads that have a three-phase rectifier, like variable speed drives, PV systems, EV charging stations, and medical equipment.
